Representatives of RRA Srem participated in a three-day program in Croatia, which included a conference, study visits, and workshops dedicated to improving the position of persons with disabilities. The RRA Srem delegation also included representatives of associations working with persons with disabilities. The activities were carried out within the framework of the GET in project, funded by the European Union’s CERV program, with partners from Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Ireland, and Serbia. The activities were carried out within the framework of the GET in project, funded by the European Union’s CERV program, with partners from Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Ireland, and Serbia.

On the first day, a Kick-off Conference was held in the Municipality of Cestica, where participants were welcomed by the Head of the Municipality, Mirko Korotaj. On that occasion, the long-standing cooperation and previous joint projects were highlighted, including the first ACT IN project implemented ten years ago. The conference also featured short presentations of all partner organizations, among which was RRA Srem.

On the second day, the delegation visited Arboretum Opeka Secondary School, an educational institution known for its programs in agriculture, as well as for well-developed curricula for educating persons with disabilities. A particularly strong impression was left by the Regional Competence Center in Agriculture, funded by the European Union and located in the renovated premises of a former castle. Today, this space includes modern classrooms, laboratories, student accommodation facilities, and a conference hall.

Within the center, a workshop was organized where participants, through pre-designed scenarios, worked on addressing challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the community. A lecture was also held on the objectives of the Strategy on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for the period 2021–2030, followed by a project team meeting dedicated to planning upcoming activities and events.

On the third day, the delegation visited the “Sunce” Association, an organization recognized for providing community services for persons with disabilities. A particularly valuable experience for RRA Srem representatives was learning about the model of independent living with the support of personal assistants, which they had the opportunity to see in practice.

A powerful impression was also left by the presentation of the association’s founder, who started the organization three decades ago with the aim of helping her daughter. Her personal story of dedication, struggle, and love further emphasized the importance of work in this field.

RRA Srem continues its activities within the project, with the next event planned for June, when partners will gather in Turin, Italy.
