The City of Sremska Mitrovica, in partnership with the municipalities of Ruma, Stara Pazova, Irig, Pećinci, Šid, and Inđija, and the Srem Regional Development Agency, has commenced the development of the Territorial Strategy for the Urban Area of the City of Sremska Mitrovica and the Municipalities of Ruma, Stara Pazova, Irig, Pećinci, Šid, and Inđija.

The aim of this strategy is to contribute to sustainable territorial development based on fostering an innovative, smart, low-carbon, and circular economy. Attention is also paid to the transition to clean and just energy, as well as promoting green and blue investments, while mitigating and adapting to climate change, and preventing and managing risks. The Strategy should also contribute to sustainable and multimodal urban mobility. Special emphasis is placed on strengthening the social component in the areas of employment, education, socio-economic inclusion and integration, housing, social and health care, culture, sports, social innovations, and innovations in digital technologies. Furthermore, the strategy development process involves applying an integrated and participatory approach to the development of society and economy, landscape development, cultural and architectural heritage, natural heritage, sustainable tourism, as well as strengthening urban-rural connections.

The Strategy sets priorities for sustainable territorial development, contributes to the optimal use of financial resources, and fosters connections within and outside the environment.

All interested citizens are invited to contribute to the development of the Strategy by responding to the questionnaire on various aspects of the quality of life in their residential area.

Data obtained through the questionnaire will be used to analyze the current situation, assess development potentials and challenges, and define development needs. The results will be presented at a series of thematic roundtables to be organized in the coming period.
