On 8/27/2014, Chamber of Commerce of Serbia Belgrade hosted the Final Conference within the promotion of the “ Danube Bike – establishing regional cycling route Srem“ project , funded by the EU IPA funds and the Austrian Development Agency. The conference was attended by representatives of tourism organizations, the National Agency for Regional Development, partner municipalitie
s and collaborators in the project and also the representatives of the cycling association. It should be noted presence of Vukovarsko – Srijemska County, Vukovar Development Agency Hrast and Vukovar County Chamber as partners which are very interested in the continuation of the project and its future effects.
Zoran Novakovic , coordinator of the Office of the Danube Strategy within Serbian Chamber of Commerce in his opening remarks expressed his welcome to all the participants and stressed the great importance of the effects of the project on the overall socio – economic development of the region , pointing out that cycling is one of the most promising part of the tourism.
Vladimir Vlaovic , secretary of Chamber of Commerce of Srem, the holder of the project, added that this project will have a major impact on the development of tourism in Srem , as the route mainly passes through Fruska Gora National Park and has connection to the Danube Euro Velo 6 route, route Sirmium in Croatia and can be spreaded to other regions because it has the ability to connect to a international Sava route.
Milan Miric, director of Regional Development Agency Srem, the main partner in the project, pointed the significance of local experts , since IMWG consisted of representatives of municipalities of region of Srem, municipalities Beocin and Backa Palanka , NP of FG and RDA Srem. ”I would also like to thank the Republic Geodetic Authority for their generous support in issuing the necessary documents required for the preparation of major projects . „
Sanja Stupar, manager of the project, particularly emphasized the role of experts involved in the project : tender agent engaged in the preparation of tenders for the Study of major projects and cyclo expert Jovan Erakovic, Vladimir Pandurov, engaged in the training of IMWG on project cycle management, dr.Kristina Košić and dr.Vanja Dragicevic from PMF Novi Sad.
The main activity of the project is drafting of the establishment of a regional cycling route Srem and major project bike signage, rest areas and infrastructure whose results were presented by PhD Vuk Bogdanovic , a representative of Faculty of Tehnical Sciences Novi Sad , Department for Transport . He specifically stressed „the alignment of regional cycling routee Srem charted in the Spatial Plan of AP Vojvodina. The main trail is a 91 5 km long, it starts from the border crossing Nestin – Ilok and ends at Banstol where it merges with Route Euro Velo 6.”
Project-technical documentation is the basis for applying for EU and national funds and for further investments primarily in infrastructure equipment of regional cycling route Srem. This would make the trail being established, marked and available to cyclo tourists , which would give a positive effect on the local population , employment , jobs and overall socio – economic development of the region.
