OLD_NEWS_ENGSDC program ” Rural and Regional Development Support to Serbia”

sdc_02RDA Srem was one of the participants in the two-day seminar held in Banja Koviljaca, which was a continuation of the implementation of the supporting program to the rural and regional development worth 6.9 million Swiss francs that will be implemented by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in the following six years.
Workshop participants, other than representatives of RDA Srem, were representatives of local governments and advisory services from the selected functional regions, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, Provincial Secretariat for Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, Institute for Science Application in Agriculture, private and civil sectors. SDC plan is to implement the program at the level of two functional regions in Serbia, where one of the wholes that will be included in the project, consisting of a unified territory of Šumadija and Kolubara and the other one will be the territory of Srem and Mačva district.

The main topic of the workshop were suggestions for preparation of the Draft on the establishment of mid-term development program for advisory service for the period 2016 – 2020, which are in the European framework recognized as one of the leading operators in the development of agriculture. Interactive work in groups moderated by a national expert on rural development Branko Milic, a consultant NIRAS –a, specific results derived from the work of four groups followed by expert recommendations and the transfer of good practice of advisory Service in Poland presented by Mr Jacek Wesierski, an international expert on rural development.

sdc_01Plenary discussion on the results of the workshop was also attended by John Gallagher, the team leader of the project in which he shared his experience and vision of advisory services as a key to improve the competitiveness of agricultural producers, raising quality standards and innovation, increasing the possibilities of using EU funds.

According to the participants, this workshop was well organized, efficient and will be just one of a series of interactive sessions that should provide specific guidance and recommendations to decision makers in the creation of rural and regional development in Serbia.
