On today’s working meeting hosted by Municipality of Indjija, RDA Srem entered the final phase of the institutional organization of the region of Srem in order of effective preparation for future projects as well as „regionalization“ of existing local projects. This will greatly increase chances of getting loans from financial institutions, with a particular focus on the EU pre-accession funds. Model for future cooperation in the region will be based on the Project Management Unit (PMU) within the Regional Development Agency Srem and its associated bodies: Municipalities’ Forum and Inter-municipal working groups (IMWG), formed primarily for the development of infrastructure projects and regional economic development. In accordance of RDA Srem role in the region of Srem, primarily in terms of balancing of the local Municipalities’ founder of Sustainable Development at the regional level. The RDA Srem has launched this initiative through the series of preparatory meetings with founders (Sremska Mitrovica town and municipality of Ruma, Irig, Sid Inđija, Stara Pazova and Pećinci Regional PK) and relevant provincial and national authorities and received unequivocal support.Ministry of Local Government has given the support to this kind of association, whose aim is to adopt the National Plan for Regional Development in the next three to four years that will be consistent with regional plans. „The ministry will continue to support and secure inter-municipal cooperation and projects as well as the establishment of joint public companies, firms, any reduction of the costs …“ said Mr Edi Majstorovic, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and added that the inter-municipal projects will be a priority in allocation of resources from the budget. In this way, RDA and the region of Srem will achieve the main precondition for all successful projects to be achieved only by engaging local i.e. Municipal potentials, interest related to the identified joint regional projects.
The next step after this meeting is the signing of a joint agreement on the establishment of inter-municipal working groups and further work on regional projects.
