RDA Srem, as an institution that deals with the concepts of regional development in the past four years has been developing the technical documentation related to large infrastructure systems and with the establishment of a regional system of irrigation. This approach involved the development of technical and study documentation that are in accordance with the Law on planning and construction, and was the basis for further activities on defining urban planning conditions and detailed design and higher levels of regional infrastructure. By virtue of the use of donor funds, the Feasibility Study and General design on irrigation have been made. Based on the documentation the conditions for the development of the Spatial Plan for the special purpose of irrigation have been met, which has been done on the RDA Srem proposal. This regional plan is currently in the final stage at the Planning Institute of Vojvodina.
After meetings and conversations with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, a new, higher stage of preparing technical documentation for irrigation in Srem has started. Funds for the projects are foreseen from the available funds, such as the Abu Dhabi Development Fund.
Regarding this fact, there were several joint meetings of key actors for irrigation in Srem – Public water management company „Vode Vojvodine“, Novi Sad, Provincial Secretariat for Agriculture, the City of Sremska Mitrovica, RDA Srem, Public Water company „Sava“, etc., and conclusions were adopted on the next steps and ways of implementation of the operational plan for the use of funds. This will include the first place the development of technical documentation to the level of a building permit for the construction of the irrigation system. City Sremska Mitrovica is designed as an area where there are conditions for the first developed irrigation infrastructure.
With these investment Srem could be the first region in Serbia which has systematically developing a regional concept and came to a position of fund withdrawals in millions of euros.
