Regional Development Agency Srem hosted the meeting about the preparation of project documentation for the „Removing barriers to promoting and supporting the system of energy management in municipalities in Serbia“ project. This project is being implemented in cooperation with the UNDP, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), supported by the Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia and company GFA Ltd. and also engaged by UNDP for the actual preparation of project documentation.
The meeting was attended by managers engaged in the preparation of project documentation: Maja Matejić, portfolio manager for Energy in UNDP and Zoran Kapor, general manager of the GFA for South Eastern Europe, the main coordinators of the project, as well as Vesa Rutanen, a consultant hired by the GFA Ltd.. They were interested to collect informations about energy efficiency and resources that are required for the introduction of energy management and energy efficiency improvements from the representatives of the municipalities of Ruma, Pećinci and Irig.
The general conclusion of the meeting is, although there are initiatives for development and improvement, the issue of energy efficiency in municipalities is still in its infancy and needs the help among other things in the form of grants in order to continue with the activities of further improvement and implementation. A remarkable contribution to this certainly can be given by RDA Srem, which is interested in questions of justification of renewable energy, and which can be kind of activity coordinator at the regional level, reviewing regional needs and imposing appropriate standards.
