Within the project “Mapping of the local spatial, infrastructure, resource and logistic support for the production of electricity and/or thermal energy from biomass in Srem”, developed jointly by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM ) and the Regional Development Agency of Srem (RDA Srem), a meeting has been held in Sremska Mitrovica on 10/31/2014 where the project was presented to the municipalities of Sremska Mitrovica and Šid, otherwise funded by the Embassy of Finland and focused on the availability of biomass in Srem and its usability for the production of heat and electricity.
At the beginning of the meeting, attendees were addressed by Milan Mirić, Director of RDA Srem, which is also a partner in the project mentioned above, emphasizing the importance of the project for the entire Srem, with the conclusion that this project is seen as part of a larger project aimed at reducing barriers to the accelerated development of biomass market in Serbia, implemented by UNDP in Serbia and financed by GEF (Global Environmet Facility).
Introductory remarks about the project were presented by Miodrag Gluščević, senior associate of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities and Head of department for utility and urban planning issues and the environment. He has presented as a general objective of the project a performance boost of energy sector by enhancing investment in renewable energy and contribution to reducing negative effects on the climate by reducing emissions of CO2, while the very purpose of the project is contribution to intensifying investment activities related to the use of biomass for energy production at the local level.
The methodological approach in the implementation of project activities was presented by professors of Faculty of Mining and Geology, PhD Dejan Ivezić and PhD Dejan Djukanovic from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade, stressing the great potential of the municipalities in the field of renewable energy.
Presentation of the project of Biomass has been held in the municipalities of Pećinci and Ruma. The presentation to the municipalities of Irig, Stara Pazova and Inđija is about to be held soon.
